Some of my friends in Stoner Hill have not yet become affiliated. Some have older brothers that are gang affiliated which usually leads to the little brother following big brothers’ footsteps. I’ve been seeing violence since the third grade. I watched a guy come over to Wilkinson Projects and confront a man about his girlfriend. Moments later that guy was on the ground getting punched and kicked by three dudes while his girlfriend was screaming, “please stop.” He couldn’t get to his gun quick enough instead he lost it in the scuffle. I’ve seen guys get pistol whipped, beat with chains and there was always sound of gunfire during my earliest time in Wilkinson Projects. It was rough over there before the Crips and Bloods. Stoner Hill was no different. I was living right in the ghetto with no father and two sisters, my mother doing the best she can. Why did I have to get involved in a gang? Why did any of us have to?
